Wholemeal Bread Recipe
This wholemeal bread recipe makes a very tasty loaf. It is straightforward and easy to make in your bread machine. Like the
basic white bread recipe, it keeps well if you let it cool completely then store it in a plastic bag
in your bread bin. As with most loaves you make in your bread machine, it pays to use the best quality flour you can afford. Although
a cheap supermarket flour will make a perfectly acceptable loaf, you will get a higher rise and better taste with a better quality flour.

Method
Put all the ingredients into your bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer. My own Panasonic machine requires the
ingredients in the order listed above, i.e. yeast first, water last.
Set to basic whole wheat loaf programme (it takes five hours from start to finish in my bread machine).
Alternatives
- You can use sunflower or olive oil instead of butter: Add 1 tablespoon for the small loaf, 1½ for the medium loaf and 2 tablespoons
for the large loaf.
- Try using half milk, half water.
